Walt & I hit the Quabbin again today. Launching before 8 am with the air at a brisk 51 degrees! 3 days ago it was in the 90's! New England! Water temp was 70 degrees today and the wind - if you could call it that - was calm to very light. This is what she looked like at our first stop:

The thermals were at work with some fog. Made presentation a tad difficult. We can't cast all that long with our shoulders, so we did the best we could. About 10 am a light breeze came up and helped us out a bit. This guy however didn't mind the conditions at all. Our first loon sighting. A bit far away, so the picture isn't great:

Didn't see any eagles today either. A bit disappointing. But the fish were co-operative to a degree and we started hitting them right off the bat. We cast and drifted mostly straight tails for a time. The paddle tails didn't really light things up much today. However, I tried something I haven't in quite a while - a 2" curly tail! Presto! That really got 'em turned on. Used the ones from "Southern Pro" and they move with the very slowest of retrieves. Great action. The fish liked them too - which is more important that what we think, right!

We marked a lot of fish - and bait - over the deep basin areas, as you can see:

This gave us great hope. All we really would need to improve things was a tad more breeze. Like about 10 mph. That would be ideal. We didn't do all that bad however, with 55 fish caught & released when we pulled off a bit after 1 pm. Only 4 were bluegill. Nothing big however, but here are a few to give you an idea of what we were catching today:

Great fun on our ultra light rigs and a very pleasant day to be out on the water. Keep a tight line Folks!
