• Slab Crappie morning

Dr Phillip Gawthrop met me in the parking lot of Food City at 6 am and 15-20 minutes later, we were on our way to an offshore structure that has been good lately. By 7:30 we had 14 keepers in the live well and decided to move. We ran to a bluff and I caught 3 crappie that were short and that was the end of the bite for us today. We quit fishing at 8:30 but didn’t get a keeper after 7:30.

The fish were caught on Crappie Magnets Glimmer Blue on 3/32oz jig heads. I did catch the last two keepers after the bite slowed way down by switching to a Southern Pro Pearl Stinger on a Chartreuse 3/32 oz jig. The biggest fish of the day was caught on that jig. The parking lot pics were of the 4 biggest fish. Phil had a great haul to clean today.

Current was 12,300 today, the same as the past few trips. Water temp was up from 82.9 on Friday to 85 today. No rain showers to cool the surface off the past couple of days. The fish were 18-25 feet deep. Slow rolling early, then switching to lift drop presentation after it got light outside. Phil caught the only trashy green fish today but it was only about 13” long.
