• Gave the new water another shot

Being the middle of the week, I took a chance that the new pond might not be quite as busy in the evening as it was on a bright, sunny, warm Sunday afternoon. I was correct, as there were no other boats out, and just an older couple lounging at water's edge. I put in about 5:15 and left them biting at 7:45. Air temp in the low 80's, water at 76, a persistent but not too strong of a breeze from the south. I trolled a variety of baits other than the SP crappie stingers to start and started the night off with a big perch. After a bit of a dry spell, I clipped on the stingers and the action started in earnest, with a steady stream of nice bluegill and the occasional calico.

I was mapping as I trolled along, trying to get a feel for the contours of this pond and found most of the action in the 15-18' water. I had to stay out of the less than 10' water due to excessive weed growth; even on a 1/32 ounce head I was hanging up on them.

The black/chartreuse tail stinger was clearly the hot bait of the night although the grey one and the green/white tail supplied their share, too. I'd toss the black one out and take a stroke or 2 with the oars and bingo, fish on!

All told, I'd say I had about 10 calico's, smallest about 10, largest just over 12, probably 20 nice 'gills, 2 big perch and one bass about 2 lbs. All in all, a fun night and just what I needed after a hectic work day.

A very good after work trip. I envy the time to be able to do that, my days start very early. That’s as good a mixed bag as I’ve seen in a while. Good Job!
