• A wet one...

Well since the new baby was born my spare time went from little to none. I had lost all hope of getting a trip in before the new year, but the wife surprised me late Saturday night by telling me that our 2 yr old was gonna spend the night at Granny's house and that I had from that moment till noon on Sunday to do whatever I wanted.....holy smokes!! So I spent the next 3 hrs tracking down all my rods, tackle and equipment and loaded up the 21 Sea Pro, rain or shine I was goin!! Made a few late night calls and managed to find one of my derelict friends awake and wantin to go fishing. Took a peek at my weather app and saw a predicted overcast day with a 51% chance of rain at 10 am. Looked good enough to chance it.

7:30 at Georgia Boys and we headed south down the st. John's to a bank I picked out on my Garmin that looked like a good place to try. Set out an assortment of jigs and minnows on and the Spyder rig and started lookin for fish and trees on the sidescan. 8:07 am and we look up the river and groaned as white haze came racing towards us...up goes the Bimini top...I had about 3 hours to fish and a little rain wasn't gonna stop me. So we huddled behind the console and watched the rods and the rain from under our small, tattered shelter and the rain did not stop. But we trolled on down the bank between 15 and 6 fow hoping this wasn't a terrible waste of time.

9:45, my 3 deep rods go down and we hustle out in the wet to the bow and grab the rods up, and figure out real quick that with the net in the stern rod holder that this was gonna be interesting. 2 get off and we swing the 3rd one over the rail, big fish of the day. I look at the side scan history and see a log with shadows over it so I mark it and commence to a figure 8 pattern over it. We catch 3 more, loose 5 more, rain still coming down we keep moving down the bank looking for more. We miss a bunch of fish due to our distance between the roof and the rods but due to our lack of rain gear we figured staying dry was worth a few less fish At 11:00 it stops raining and we the rain quits and we pack it in, 10 in the livewell that go back in, and even tho it was a wet one we had a blast!!

Man I feel ya pain with having little time and kids. Way to take advantage of the free time you had and looks like some beautiful slabs were caught and fun was had. Enjoy the time with the kids, they get big quick.

Whatever works, nice fish... like the bucket idea up front to convert the Ocean going boat to speck fishing without drilling holes, ect...
