Just a short story to share. I eat lunch at a small Chinese place in Lake Mary. I’ve been known to buy a meal for a first responder occasionally, insisting that the waitress say nothing about who paid the tab. On the 23rd I tried to do this for a Seminole county sheriff deputy with a bunch of stripes on his left forearm. As we both ate our meals we spoke back and forth some, but I tried to not be a pest and let him enjoy his meal. He finished first and headed for the cashier, I looked at her and shook my head no. He got a bill out of his pocket, had a few words with the girls. They tried to explain that his bill was already paid, but he shook his head no and insisted on buying my lunch. I didn’t know how to react. We wished each other Merry Christmas and parted ways. I’ve never had to fight with someone to buy his meal, but he beat me to the punch. I’ll see him again, as I’ve seen him before and we frequent this place, maybe next time.
