Twas the day before Christmas eve and all thru Michigan,
the weather was forecasted to be very pleasant.
I was watching CDC and no new reports had I seen.
My boat and tackle are all put away for the long winter months,
With visions of bent rods and full nets in the coming year.
When at the park and ride at 7am, and what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But a red Chevy truck pulling a beautiful new sleigh.
The driver OE was as pale as new fallen snow with red hair that reminded me of a jolly old elf in his hat
We launched that big new boat at Lake Erie metro with the 300 rein-deer coming to life.
After clearing the harbor and not seeing any ice, OE “throttle whipped” those 300 up to speed.
As we tore thru the chop at break neck speed, his beloved cap popped off the dash and flew out the back never to be seen.
On we went those deer not tiring
We arrived at the x on the map and settled to a slow troll with lines out the side and the back.
We trolled a long ways with no flags till we came to floating ice that threatened to close in around us.
On we trolled thru a thin line of the ice to escape
We managed to finally have a board go off and a nice eating size walleye was boxed
We trolled up 6 more before we started to loose light.
Largest was between 37 and 38
We called it a day and arrived back at the park and ride at 8
OE had further to go so he got back on the road.
As I watched him turn onto the freeway out of sight,
I heard him exclaim, now I have walleyes to clean on Christmas eve eve night……
