Took my birthday dog Raven(turned 7 on Columbus Day last week) to a local lake near home early this morning to finally get him a little boat time which he truly loves. Unfortunately, a black-coated dog(Lab/German shorthair mix) doesn't yield well to Florida's sun indexing. On the water @daybreak to find dense cloud cover preventing a sunrise backdrop but all is on schedule otherwise, including Raven's Halloween costume.
Actually got Raven right before our Lake Griffin Crappiefest '13 event(Slab's homelake) so what better attire would be appropriate=
Getting the rods out to combo troll(l/l & s/r) proved to be a challenge with high weed growth in 5 - 6 fow. After adjusting line length, 1st crappie came aboard for Raven's perusal.
Raven understandably wanted more playtime after I released the 10" but was soon replaced by a 10" Greenback. Weeds still played the enemy but stayed with it after releasing another pair of crappie/gb's. We moved to a deeper adjoining lake and encountered a very aggressive, rod-holder altering strike that yielded a respectable 2.5 lb gb on a 12' l/l presentation.
Another sad release for Raven to deal with as was the new bright sun exposure that would eventually yield to our trip's end by 1100.
Meager results with 3 crappie/5 gb's released for totals but still a different but enjoyable day overall. When we got back to the ramp, Raven had 3 items needing "immediate" attention...even non-dog owners should easily know the 1st two(w/o pics) here is #3
"Chillin' @the beach"!!
