I bought a Bass Raider 10E from Academy and spent just about every other weekend this summer mapping out Lake Woodhaven in Montgomery Bell State Park while Bass fishing. I usually start my day by throwing out a jig, but only caught 1 or 2 crappie the entire summer. I knew they were in there, and I knew by water temperature about what depth they SHOULD be at, but never had any luck. On Labor Day I buckled down, bought a bucket of minnows and decided I was going to figure out exactly where these fish were. After trolling around for an hour and a half with a couple dropshots in the water, I caught my first Crappie. I kept the boat around that spot for an hour and caught 10 Crappie, not a bad haul.
I think I finally figured out exactly where they are on the lake. I'm not going to give too many details because it's only a 50-acre lake and I can't have too many people knowing the secrets that I spent the summer figuring out. I'm just glad to know that I have a spot 5 minutes up the road in Dickson County where I can go and catch a mess of Crappie. Before this, I would have to drive for an hour or better.
For the record, I don't usually keep the bass I catch out of there, but this one was 17" and had swallowed one minnow with the hook and was going for the second one when I caught him.
