Had the great pleasure of getting to fish with GeneC for 3 days down at Buggs Island. He gave me some great lessons on how to fish his homemade "stinger" jig.

Wednesday and Thursday we fished in Rudds, Friday we fished in Eastland. We fished bridges, docks and brush in 10 to 24 FOW with the key being brush that topped out 8 to 10 feet deep.. We tried fishing some minnows for awhile on Friday and I manage a white perch, otherwise all our fish were caught on jigs.

The fish were just ticking the jig very lightly and you had to work it in the brush to get a bite. We average 50 nice keeper crappie a day with many fish in the 12 to 14 inch range with the biggest being 14-3/4". Gene caught most and biggest fish each day but I did get better each day due to his lessons. And I did get the smallest. We also caught allot of nice white perch up to 13" and few bass and a couple of catfish. All fish were released.

Weather was really good. Cloudy in the morning for both Wednesday and Thursday and real foggy on Friday. We were chased off the water on Thursday by a thunder storm by 1:30. Friday in Eastland we had the pleasure of seeing a bear swim across the creek. We followed it not to closely and took a couple of pictures before it made shore and took off running. It was a good size bear in the 150 to 200 lb range.

Really had a great trip. Thanks again Gene for all the great hospitality and fishing lessons and showing me that you really don't need minnows to catch crappie. Look forward to doing it again as I'm sure I'll need more lessons.

    Here are some pictures.
