• July and stuck on the Bank

No boat rides lately and everyone knows you are done on crappie in the dead of the summer off the bank .
I been told a many a times things like , just wait until it gets hot and lets just see if you can still tear them up off the bank .
Well to be sure it can be done and to be just as sure in numbers as good as any boat ride as well .
Sizeable fish as well and a tore up thumb just like it was back in the spring months and the winter months and the fall months .
Don't be fooled or misled on banking in the summer months , it will require you to know your waters and where to be when . It also helps to know what they might want instead of what they wont touch . And to be sure you need to have on your A game on what a bite might look ,feel like or even maybe could be possibly a bite .
The summer fish are so terribly different and have such a subtle way in many cases it defies the imagination . A sensitive rod is a must and to be sure lighter is best because you will find yourself in a situation where heavy hands and tackle will make you wish you had finesse equipment instead .Another thing that is equally important is often the color of the jig in the summer and size . AND scent matters !
I read an article the other day about how "livescope" once again proved exactly what I have preached for years on summer crappie about a real small jig and very light tackle .
The fish would touch NOT a larger bait and even ran away from it if it moved , but a tiny bait held real still and or barely moving got "streaked" on by fish 2 to 4 feet under it .
So I say once again put up that heavy tackle and go whipper stick and light line and jigs and sling some crappie fish like ya mean it .
60 of the 72 I managed the other morning came in 60 minutes ,20 to 25 seconds to get bit after it hit the water .
KABOOM is the word BTW ….

I got that jig about a year ago from a man who ties jigs in south texas , I have no clue if it has a name or if he even regularly ties them . MCM tackle is the name of his ma and pa tackle company

Good writeup, thanks for the tips, but you forgot to mention the most important tip of all, as seen in your last photo ….. The jig has to match your shirt !
