• Afternoon Bonanza

What a day, when the morning starts out with 12 deer having breakfast in the neighborhood cornfield, you know it is going to be a good day.
    ?
An easy Monday at work led to an afternoon trip to the creek bank. While walking down to the edge of the water I saw several small pods of Shad dimpling the smooth flowing stained water. Before I made my first cast a predator fish scattered a group of the unsuspecting bait and I felt a grin coming on. Armed with a Bison colored Trout Magnet on 3lb Nanofil, I immediately became embattled with my first of many fish, a nice little Smallmouth.
    ?
    ?
Tipped with the Berkeley Wax worm the Trout Magnet is a killer bait. Two casts later a wrist jarring thump and subsequent drag squealing run let me know right quick it was on.
    ?
The rascal tore up my bait and knocked off the Wax worm so while reloading an idea popped into my head, why not try the new color I picked up at the Fishing Show? Not sure of the name of the color, I know that it resembles a Shad and the usually where there is one White Bass there are many others. So after the color change the third cast, tick tick...
    ?
What...a Bluegill on the Shad color. There may be something to this new color!! The rest of the short evening was a freakin catch fest. A larger White Bass was next and I got the old trusty ruler out to keep me honest on size, a fisherman would never exaggerate size. [emoji16]
    ?
Up next another Brown fish, this one put on a show. Two tail walks with gill shakes then an upstream run tested my drag, line, and knot ties.
    ?
I won the battle and this funny shaped fish cooperated nicely for photos and was promptly released. Two more nice Bluegill fell victim to the new color and after looking at the second picture I realized I did not even have the darn thing rigged correctly. Man I hate having to deal with reading glasses.
    ?
    ?
Another good pulling White Bass with a beautiful blue color sheen (breeding colors maybe) on his upper side fell victim to the bait, as did many more small Gills.
    ?
And for the final fish of the night, a Spotted Bass as darkness set in.
    ?
    ?
A great day with a new bait color. Total fish count for 1.25 hours of fishing, 2 Smallmouth, 4 White Bass, 11 Bluegill and a Spotted Bass. A Flash flood watch is now in effect for us as I type and a couple inches of rain are expected tonight and tomorrow. I sure would like to go back after these fish but I am afraid Mother Nature has other plans.
