• Hazy, hot, VERY humid

Sorry for not having posted in so long. Weather here has been the main factor. Hazy, hot, VERY humid and rainy weather has been the norm for the past couple of weeks here in the northeast. Today was suppose to be a much better day - according to the weather folks (yeah....right).

Anyway, we launched around 7:30 am this morning with the air at a nice 60 degrees for a change (as opposed to the normal starting temp of the mid to upper 70's all this past week). The water was at a balmy 78 degrees. No wind. Very calm and warming quickly. Here's what we were faced with:

And more of the same as the morning progessed:

We tried our darnedest to find some decent schools of bait and/or crappie, but were not very successful. This is about the best we could find:

Not saying very much! But that's how it was all morning long. We mainly side pulled our jigs from 15' - 24', but we also tried casting some shallow weed flats in 8' - 12' of water. The sun beat us down and by the time we quit fishing around 12:30 pm, we had only caught & released 30 crappie between us. Walt had the "hot" rod today - if you want to call it that. No big crappie, but scrappy fighters on UL rigs non the less. Here are some examples:

This lousy weather pattern suppose to persist through most of next week. So, we'll probably put any fishing plans on hold until we get some relief and more promising weather forecasts. Hope some of you were able to "beat the heat" and wet a line.

Wow - you seem to be complaining about what I would consider a very successful day! But then, I consider my self truly blessed whenever I get to go fishing; catching something makes it an even bigger blessing, and catching "30 crappie between us" would be a special blessing!

We'd never "complain" per say, about wetting a line, that's for sure. But this season just has not produced for us the way some of the past seasons have. Of course, we haven't been out as much as in previous seasons either. Trust me....30 crappie between us is sub par to say the least. We love it regardless, which is why we keep at it.
