• N Fla Crappie lake and rv camping recommendations

After 10 days or so we headed to our final week long destination in Aster along the st.John's river. Again the weather was tuff multiple cold fronts and when it got warm in got windy (still better than corn country). We headed south on the river and fished Dexter and Woodruf and the (alligator infested water between them) lol there was a different gator every 50 yards along the bank. We fished minnows under corks and also pushed double minnow rigs, but spider rigging caught the most. I felt under gunned with only four 14ft poles off the bowl, and hats off to the guys who can run to 16 poles by themselves. We caught a good variey of size fish, but most were 1 to 2# range, and I tell you i could get used to 2# crappie, i fear i am now spoiled and will have to plan another trip for more Florida specks.

Wow! Nice crappie. Crappie fishing is addicting. You will need to go back to Florida again for crappie therapy. Thanks for sharing the report and pictures.

Its gonna be a yearly thing now, but next year it will be more toward February instead, it sounds like the spawn happens around then. If the wife would let me id stay as long as possible and live off crappie sandwiches

Like Ingrams and whipperwill at Talquin, small and kinda in the city but Griffin state park and in Aster we stayed at Parramores fish and camp mostly campers and cabins, many resident snow birds there, I wasnt real impressed but not sure how much has been done since Irma blew through. When I go back to Aster I might try Aster landing and campground they are on the North West shore of lake Dexter, all the camp spots surround a small pond and there are plenty of trees. Fishing was good at all places but Griffin had the quanity, Talquin specks had size and Dexter and Woodruff was both and easiest to spider rig.
