• You never have enough fishing friends

    Especially Crappie friends!

A while ago I posted a question in the Florida forum asking for information on a place I could go while attending my nieces wedding. A new member to crappie.com responded to my inquiry and in fact invited me to fish with him on the lake his house is on. This new members screen name is Conrod.

So after some PMs and emails it worked out that today would be the day....now bear in mind my wife is not as trusting as I am when it comes to meeting up with someone from the Internet, I assured her she had nothing to worry about.

I made the 40 minute or so drive up to Conrod’s Home and we were soon on the water.....I could hardly wait, 2 years ago I had never caught a crappie despite fishing since I was a child and have been having pretty good success in my home state of Michigan, I thought how cool if I could catch a crappie in another state!

Conrod was the first to land a crappie..... nice, we at least will not get skunked!

A little while later, I had my first Florida crappie!

Time passed and a few more were brought in the boat, Conrod did much better than I, which is as it should be he had Home lake advantage! He said I usually start with 3 rods, catching so many I drop down to 2 then eventually just 1......soon I’m throwing them back! Well I’m not sure if that’s true or just a tremendous fish tale!

Water was 70 degrees, water depth average was about 20 feet, I never thought I’d need a hoodie in Florida but I’m glad my wife convinced me to bring one along.

I feel fortunate that a c.c member reached out to help me find a place to fish while visiting Florida, I feel more fortunate to have made another fishing buddy, we will plan on doing it again!

have met and fished with bunch of great CDC members since I joined year ago and have found them to be so generous and friendly. Heck da Boss man even took me out when I was down in FL visiting my buddies and showed them how to do it with the Slab rig. we all caught some nice specs to take home. Crappie.com is a wonderful way of life!

GFY and Conrad for hosting. where in FL were you fishing? meeting new friends is always so enjoyable.

Fishing in Mount Dora - Lake JEM which is a small 11acre priavate lake. I’m trying to learn the art before I go out on the Big Waters with a bigger boat!
