I called up Jerry (Spartannation) last night to see if he was up for some fishing on Friday over at Morrison Lake in Ionia County and he said he was. We agreed to meet at the boat launch early in the morning. We launched the boat and were fishing by 8:00 am.
I started out with a jig and a minnow while Jerry and my Grandson Aiden were using red worms on a certain secret special fishing lure Jerry keeps closely guarded about the name, and I was sworn to secrecy. Jerry knows this lake well so I asked him to sit up front and guide us with the trolling motor to his secret hotspots......it was no time and I had a crappie.
Then Jerry started pulling the bluegills out one after another so I didn't waste any time changing over to his tactic and began seeing success as well. Jerry became tutor and taught Aiden the art of jigging and in no time Aiden was also bringing in bluegills.
The thrill of the day was when Aiden caught a 14 1/2" brown bullhead, unassited except net duties by myself at the boat which qualifies him to enter into Michigans Master Angler program, I called Rich on the phone at this point to see what I needed to do to enter the fish for Aiden.....(thanks Rich!)
At this point I do not have a fishfinder on my boat so I can't report depth, temp but I can say that other than the crappie caught on a minnow, all the fish were caught on redworms jigging,
End of the day Jerry took home 30 bluegills, 4 perch, 1 crappie and the bullhead to clean for a upcoming fish fry.....we must have threw back at least as many as we kept.
