Rain cramping my style.

Another day of threatening rain so going out in the boat is a no-no. I'm not taking a chance with the thunderstorms that have been popping up. So what to do, how about crabbing on the side of the road. If rain comes it's easy enough to just jump in the truck. So yesterday it was crabbing. We left late and got to the spot at 10:30. I put out a dozen nets and wasn't catching anything. Someone who had been there before us left some string lines with chicken still attached so Linda started running them and catching some nice crabs. What is the difference between chicken on a string and chicken in a net, I haven't a clue but I won't argue with success. I picked up the nets and made up some more string lines. I made them around 15' long to get them far from the bulkhead. That might have been the secret. By the time Linda got tired we had 42 large crabs in the box, and as they say we left them biting. We turned over our spot, lines, and chicken to another lady fishing with her grandsons and not doing so good.

We came home and I boiled them right away. I ate 2 females full of eggs and 1 large male. I was stuffed and Linda only was able to eat 2 large males. My daughter grabbed 4 or 5 and the rest went into the fridge to be peeled to make crab cakes with later.

The rain never threatened us until we got home so we could have safely gone fishing but the end result cannot be argued with. I talked to a gent from Franklin who fishes there 2 or 3 times a week and sells the crabs. He told me he gets 4 dollars a piece for crabs like we caught which means I had 168 dollars worth of crabs.
