• Boys 'Round Here Keeping it Crappie

Boys 'round here are keeping it simple. You don't need any fancy fiberglass wrapped boat to go fishing. Boys 'round here are keeping it crappie.

Aluminum boats are legit for crappie fishing. Not only are they easy to pull with your 4X4 truck, but have several attributes making them the perfect crappie fishing boat. These boats are affordable, durable, lots of storage, shallow draft and easy to clean up.

Scott Turnage, host of G3 Sportsman TV and G3 Boats spokesperson, agrees that aluminum boats are great for crappie anglers wanting to buy a boat. "We have several different models of aluminum fishing boats. The G3 Sportsman 17 is 17 foot, 10-inch boat with a 96-inch beam (www.G3boats.com) and a large front deck that can handle two anglers sitting upfront. That's perfect for when two crappie anglers want to sit upfront or even stand when crappie fishing. The back deck is just as wide making it a solid platform for anglers to fish from or to mount rod holders like Driftmasters and pull crankbaits or jigs," said Turnage.

While this may not be your first boat for many crappie anglers it is and buying a package boat deal is ideal. First time boat buyers often find out many of the accessories don't come standard with the boat. A package boat deal normally includes everything a crappie angler would need to drop the boat into the water and go fishing.

"The G3 Sportsman 17 is what we call our Package Jon with a mod-V hull that comes with a recessed mounted standard 55 pound thrust Minn Kota trolling motor anglers can upgrade to a 70 pound thrust 24-volt Minn Kota trolling motor. It's rated for a 90-hp engine, but can easily be powered by a 70-hp four stroke Yamaha engine," said Turnage.

"Electronics that come with this Package Jon include a Garmin Echo 150DV on the console," said Turnage. Anglers wanting additional marine electronic units have to purchase separate, however, additional Garmin brand marine electronic units can be included with the purchase and installed at the factory.

Does the trailer come with a package boat deal? "Yes, they do. The G3 Sportsman 17 Package Jon comes with a Bear trailer and radial tires along with a swing away tongue for easier storage and security," said Turnage.

What's the bottom line on the cost of a Package Jon boat by G3 Boats? While it depends on all the options and upgrades you want on your boat it's really affordable. "Realistically, an angler might be able to get one at around $15,999. There are also several other models including basic flat bottom Jon boats to choose from that a crappie angler might be interested in getting for fishing," said Turnage.

Now you don't have to know how to do the Dougie to know the one feature of the G3 Sportsman crappie anglers are going to love is the Vinyl flooring. Crappie fishing isn't about worrying about getting the floor of the boat dirty with mud, chewing tobacco spit or dead minnows on the floor.

Aluminum package boat deals are sweet as Dixie Crystal. You can drive down red dirt roads kicking up dust without worrying about anything, but what lures you are going to fish with when you get there. It's what the boys 'round here fish out of when crappie fishing.

Love the article Brad and had a fun time with you. One thing guys, I mentioned a 15,999 price but with a 70 Yamaha as featured it's more around the 18,999 price.
Sorry for this. Still a great price for a wonderful crappie boat.

Thanks for letting us know and it's still a good price for a solid boat/motor/trailer.
