My wife is one of the hardest working people you will ever meet. It's a good thing because she also keeps the house going, our grandkids happy, and can't say no to any request for assistance whether it be civic clubs, church or just a friend in need. I don't get to shame her into getting on the lake with me nearly as often as either of us would like. I was able to talk her into a short afternoon trip yesterday. Did I mention she LOVES to pull cranks and is a machine on that back deck? Her net skills still need some work but she gets better every trip.
We got on the lake around 4:30 and started picking up one here, one there but also had some good fish playing the game. I've been pulling what little bit of hair I have left on my head out trying to figure out why I'm losing so many crappie that seem to be well hooked but can't get to the net. Friday was no different. At one point Vicki lost 5 fish in a row within 20 feet of the net. She was doing everything the exact same way she normally would, they were just coming off. My luck wasn't much better. We probably lost 1/3 of the fish we got to the surface and no telling how many that hit, loaded the pole, then came off when we started reeling. Of course the yellows and catfish NEVER come off the hook!
About 6:30 I asked her if she was ready to go since we had a pretty good number in the box but she said she wasn't leaving when the fish were biting! Did I mention she loves pulling cranks?
We came off the lake as the moon was coming up. She was burning her phone up taking photos of the sunset then the moon rising. I took a couple myself. We got to try out my new LED lighting while wrapping up our 8 rods.
All in all it was a great afternoon. I was burning up my phone with texts and pics to several of my buddies. We ended up with 14 keeper crappie and a couple white bass. The big fish was right at 16 inches with several over 14. We also had a few keeper dinks.
We ended the day with a trip to Belew's in Aurora. A double cheeseburger was definitely not on my diet menu but what the heck, we we celebrating.
Did I mention she loves pulling crankbaits? I've got fish on ice to clean.
