Default Longlining for crappie in colorado? What!!!

I got talked into a crappie only trip by a guy i have been teaching walleye fishing. Never fished the lake before but had 4 rods (14' and 12' southern crappie rods) rigged up with 1/32 and 1/16 oz jigs. Got out and immediately checked the water temp. Saw 57 degrees and knew i just needed to longline, cover water and get the lay of the land. Left the landing and immediately saw my depthfinder screen cover with small fish from 10-13' fow. After 3 years of fishing crappie in south carolina, i knew these small marks are crappie given the small return using down imaging and he thin profile of crappie when looking straight down on them. Took 10 minutes to have number crappie in the boat hitting mostly 1/32 oz roadrunners with mix of plastics but chart tails were key tipped with medium shiner minnows. Caught at least 50 maybe 60 crappie with four rods and even tripled up at times. Finished with 30 keepers over 10 inches. Some people at the landing had never heard this technique. This technique is foreign to even the most experienced fisherman in colorado. I am thankful the old timer crappie fisherman like sinkermaker (don) taught me this technique when i was stationed in south Carolina. I will be making a video but not posting here as not to violate advertising policies. Just wanted to touch base and let everyone i know back here at crappie.com that i wont be just focusing on walleye fishing and will be making some crappie only trips at times. Take care tim.

I'd tell 'em youre just removing the trash fish. That way maybe they wont start fishing for them, and you can have 'em all to yourself. I didn't realize you had moved....again. Good luck to ya!

Way to go Tim! Glad you had a great day! Just think you have all those lakes around you to longline all to yourself.
