Catfish will hit anything that resembles what they feel like eating, have caught them on plastic worms, plastic lizards, jigs and spinner baits and probably other stuff I cant remember.

Default Always wondered if catfish would take a fly

A local WMA has a small education area with a pond. I often take my 3wt with a mop fly there and pester the sun fish. One day I tied into something big. Big enough that I thought of palming the reel and breaking off the tippet. Ended up being a 3 lb hybrid catfish that they had stocked for a kids’ tournament. No net, of course so I had to step down into the muddy bottom to land it. I’m glad I didn’t break my rod tip.

I’ve caught more catfish on spinners than stink bait.

It is a cross of Blue and Channel catfish. They don't get really big and are a bit more aggressive than either of their origins. It is a great fish for getting a kid excited about fishing.

I wonder if you tied a fly looking like a hot dog if a catfish would hit it? :-) I love catfish, favorite eating fish. But I stop and think about the stuff we catch them on and d*mn, the'll eat pretty much anything. If your after those big flathead's the hind quarter of a dead coyote should work well. How in the world can we bring ourselves to eat them? :-) Why haven't they killed us? :-) Wonder if you could catch one on a rattle snake if you sprinkled some kool aide on it? :-) Boy they eat good!

Chicken's, mine anyway, don't eat hotdogs soaked in kool aide!
