    Default Bait

Anyone ever caught catfish on bagged shad? I bought some and walmart had fish oil on clearance and so I put the shad pieces in a ziploc bag with some fish oil. Think this will work?

I've been tempted to buy a pack. I can also buy frozen shad locally and haven't tried that yet either. Hard core cat guys scoff at it but if it catches fish who cares!! I dont have a net to catch my own shad so next best thing

Walmart also carries frozen shad. If it works then who cares! I've caught most of my cats on liver or dip bait.

Not for me it doesn't. After being froze they get real mushy and won't stay on the hook

I've been in conversations about this topic. From what I've heard you need to salt them like crazy and freeze in a super salinated solution to help keep them from getting mushy.

Also if you use mainly the heads they stay on the hook well even when mushy.

Roll them in cornmeal before freezing.

catfish bait is the easiest thing if you are fishing for channels or small blues now flatheads u have to get live fish so on days where you cannot catch a sunfish or bullhead you are basically sol

for channels i find shrimp to be the bets bait to get at a store they are tailor made perfect for a hook i never miss fish when im using shrimp

i havent tried to dip it in garlic or stink baits but sure that would somewhat make it better as well any meat works well my first catfish was caught on raw breakfast sausage globbed onto a hook but i find cut fish and shrimp by far to be the best thing for them

again depends on what type of fish you are going for
