I understand what you're saying but only thing you might try med. to large shiners', say in the 3 to 4" range... fresh cut bait will back a flathead but live is the best in my opinion too.
    If you don't get hung every-once-n-a-while you ain't jigg'n it right..:D

My go to for flatheads was fishing near the rocks in a spillway I’m taking maybe 6-10 foot out... find the deeper holes down a hundred yards or so from the outlet and float a big wad of worms or shad, large minnows or small bluegill will work but worms or shad are best... and late afternoon into the night were the best times! Would catch em from 2 lbs to 30 lbs

id do anything to catch even 4 a night lolz but atm i cant night fish due to my trucks back tailight being out gotta find out how to fix a panel inside it so i have t leave the lake at 5 when its getting dark

i fish okatibbee lake and okatibbee creek iv been setting out bank poles and catching lots of great sized channel cats every single one iv taken was pregnant which is funny and alarms me i think i may be ruining he channel population due to me taking 6 females out that were pregnant now they didnt get t lay their eggs to re grow the population

tbh im a bit sick of channels and idc for blue cats i love flatheads though and i always heard about how the meats so much better so dying to try it for myself but i cant get one over 12 pounds i want a smaller one in the 5 range

you claim u caught them on the rocks i thought flatheads try to hold onto log jams not out int he rocks like channels and blues or is it that smaller flatheads have different mannerisms

edit..nvm i thought u said u caught them above the spillway in the lake on the dam yeah iv seen guys catching flatheads before on the rocks very close to the bank surprisenly enough but they were using live bait iv caught only half pound channels on worms though sadly at okatibbee Grenada is an amazing lake and has a surprisenly small spillway for tis lake size its almost the size of okatibbees and grenada is legit 100 times larger but i never fished the spillway when its high its usually low or at medium when iv fished it

Have caught a lot of small flatheads on crappie minnows by accident. The mention earlier of catching them on a wad of worms (nightcrawlers) works well. They taste better than the other catfish , though i will keep the others also.
Lake oconee and clarks hill are my usual hangouts.

Yes, in my experience the flats are the best eaters. Also they have a big piece of belly meat that is good too. I have weighed the fish and weighed the dressed meat afterwards and I get a higher percentage of body weight from the flats, close to 50% on some.
