Default Headed to So Cali (Camp Pendleton)

Looking at the map don’t see many areas that may hold crappie but not being there yet I know could be wrong. Is it worth bribing my stuff with me or is all decent fishing 2+ hrs away?

    thanks in advance

Lake Elsinore, lake Hodges, if your lucky Vail lake might be opening back up.... San Vicente will convert you to a Coppernose and Red Ear Fan - they have VERY big fish.

I think Lake Perris is soon going to have a healthy population of Crappie.

    I appreciate the information.

I have to ask coming from the east coast my whole life and saltwater mostly what the heck is a coppernose and red ear? Are those pan fish?

They have charters going out of San Diego that are a lot of fun too. Fishing South Bay for Calicos & Spotted Bay Bass with swimbaits is a blast!

Does Elsinore actually have good crappie fishing? I have always heard such bad things about it as far as bass go I never considered it for anything else. Perris is close to me but it is nice to check out other local lakes if they have potential.

Yes Elsinore has crappie. I remember seeing some being pulled out about 12 years ago during April. Slabs too.

I did a little more googling on this and it looks like Elsinore is actually stocking crappie as well as bluegill. May take a trip out there this weekend with the kids and see what we find.

Thanks, may not make it out this weekend. I forgot the kids were supposed to be doing an early easter egg coloring and hunt so nt enough time to make it out there and back. Plan now is to hit Perris early and Elsinore next weekend.

I'll probably be out at the island... All next week should be really good.
