    Default Trolling motor upgrade

Hey guys, I have a Panfish 16 that currently has a minn kota edge on it. I'm looking to upgrade and am wanting user suggestions on Minn Kota powerdrive with i-pilot vs xi-3. Does the powerdrive require the external gps (puck)? I see where that is in the head of the motor guide. Any ideas from some of you who have already crossed that bridge would be appreciated.

The PowerDrive with I-pilot is a good choice. You'll love the spot lock and the I-pilot trolling features (autopilot, Cruise control, record, etc). I've had Terrovas for years with almost no issues and the PowerDrive is a similar motor. I actually bought a PowerDrive for a Jon boat I'm working on. The GPS puck you've seen is a bluetooth heading sensor and only necessary for the spotlock Jog feature. It's a cool feature but not required. Go to the Minn Kota website and there's a wealth of info about the features.

One thing I would consider is to look at the remote controls.
MK has a screen to view your settings
MG (I believe) does NOT HAVE A SCREEN to view your settings.

I upgraded to a Terrova 2 years ago and the remote is what pushed me to MK. Unless your TM is linked to your electronics, I have no idea how the MG guys know what their settings are.
I love my MK and after seeing my TM work on my boat, 4 of my friends added Terrovas to their boats

I have the Terrova as well. I do not want to go back to a foot control after using it. As stated the heading sensor is only needed for spotlock jog. I put that feature to good use shooting docks. Especially when the wind is blowing at the dock and I am shooting off the back of the boat. You can jog the boat forward, backward, left or right 5 feet per button push.
