The bottom plug is the old 12/24 volt receptacle. The top plug is the 24 volt marnico male plug. If you got room I would change the bottom plug to the marnico female. If you don't have room the maybe move the plug. If not you will have to change the plug on the trolling motor to the old style.

On your existing plug you should have 2/ black grounds, 1 red should be 12 volt and 1 Orange 24 volt. This is to mate with the old style 12/24 volt motors which I don't know of one made that way today. All modern motors should just have 2 wires red and black. Straight 12 volt or straight 24 volt. Use a meter to check existing wires for power then get female plug that fits your existing plug and wire accordingly to your motor. Motor should have nothing but 2 wires coming to plug.

I have the female plug from the old motor I haven't taken it apart yet but it has four prongs. So actually two of them are only being used?

Also my old motor was only 24 volt I have seen the ones that have the switch between 12 and 24.

Will it take the red and orange wire together to make 24 volt or is one of them 24 volt by itself?

You only use two wires on your plug...red is hot...black is negative...... the difference between 12 volts and 24 volts is your batterys....one battery is 12 volts.....2 batteries connected in series is 24 volts

So I probably will not wind up using the red wire on the old plug on the boat because it will be 12 volt and the orange is mostly likely the 24 volt. Sorry for the dumb questions.
