its optional just make sure you select the rite configuration. I wouldnt go with anything but the new Bluetooth model. I just sold my 80/45" US2 2014 Ipilot terrova for the new 80/60". my last one wouldn't hold spotlock for nothing. I looked hard at the Xi5 but gotta have a readout on the hand remote. I just bought mine from Northern Marine and Electronics for 1399 with ipilot no foot control. Everything on the Terrova is Excellent and even with the crap spotlock of previous legacy Terrovas i Still got a new one. that should tell you all you need to know. hands down the best. I have a friend who works at Garmin as im a Kansas guy and did you know Garmin has a TM that they are working on to link with their Units? Its really Hush Hush but ive been waiting a year for it to come out.

Footcontrol stays in the storage box unless there is an emergency and I have to have it.

Thanks for the info. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but it's in the near future.

Mine may as well. But, I'd rather have it and not need it that need it and not have it lol.

I keep mine on the front deck all the time. Just put it on "constant on" and use the speed wheel when you want to move and steer with the R&L rear buttons. I don't like the hand held controller hanging off my neck or belt. I just put the hand held on the front deck with the strap tied to the graph stand.
If I was going to be on a spot for a really long time I'd probably store the foot pedal.
I'm thinking about going to the Ultrex this winter.

Good idea! Next decision is link or non link. The type of fishing I do I can't ever see myself linking but if I don't get it I'm afraid I'll regret it one day. Too many decisions for a simple minded Fisherman lol.

I didn't link because my Helix 7's aren't the linkable. I saved a little $ going that route.

I run a mega 10 that is linkable but just don't see myself ever using it. Plus, I'll already be paying more because I'll get the riptide terrova since I also fish salt water occasionally. Just trying to save every penny possible and not have regrets. Honestly, the spotlock is my main goal.

"Mega 10" nice! I'd get the link. Like you said, uou might look back and regret it - especially if the difference isn't that significant.
