Default Screw In Seat Pedestal vs Non screw?

My boat has screw in pedestal posts. What is the advantage or disadvantage?

The screw in are supposed to be more secure, they won't bounce up or out when running rough water. Where as the smooth ones can. Thus the threaded will take a little longer to install/ remove.
If I remember correctly, the smooth ones can go in a threaded hole, the threaded cannot go in a smooth hole.
Not sure if, or how much of a price difference between the two.
    Drinkin coffee, missin fish.

Skunked Again is correct. I've bounced a rear deck seat out of the floor mount hole before, when I hit a pothole on the Interstate (down in Tenn). Screw-in pedestal posts won't bounce out, although the seat still might (since its post is not threaded).

With the screw bases, you can use either type of post. I have found that the non-screw bases tend to stay in pretty tight, IF you have the right brand name for the base. Some brands fit slightly tighter or looser than others. Keep the receipt, just in case you have to return them.
