    Question Ranger aluminum transom torque?

    HELP!!!!!!

I've searched all the way to the very end of the internet, then called a Ranger dealer..... (and the dealer says "just snug 'em up! That's the way we've done 'em since 19 and 68!")

I can't find ANYWHERE the correct torque on the transom mounting bolts (actually the nuts) for a '17 Yamaha 115 to the back of a '17 Ranger 188C!

I'm not taking the engine off, I'm only loosening the two left side nuts to install a bracket. I've got an All Aboard ladder that I want to mount, and it utilizes those two positions.

Can anybody point me to the answer? I wouldn't be so anxious about it if the transom weren't aluminum... (don't want to crush it, yet it needs to be "tight enough.")

    Much thanks

    Beavz

Yamaha should have a torque spec for mounting the motor. If I remember correctly on a Mercury its 50-60 ft. Lbs
Thanks Beavz thanked you for this post

Don't know if you have found the torque info your looking for but I sold those boats for several years and I would contact Ranger direct to see if they can provide you with this info

If you can't find an answer, and you have a torque wrench .... why couldn't you use it on one of the nuts to try and tighten it a bit more & see what it reads when the nut moves ?? Then you'll have your answer and know how much torque to use to tighten them back up. Then I'd apply a dab of Loctite Threadlocker ... just to insure vibrations don't loosen them.

No, fellas.... I've not received the "certified correct" torque. It's almost irrelevant what Yami says.... I don't want to crush the aluminum as I don't know if it's a sleeved hole. They are double nutted on the exterior. I can't find a number for Ranger direct, and like I said... I called my local dealer.... he's a very happy old feller who's proud to proclaim that he's the oldest original Ranger dealership in the state of Georgia. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade.... I just can't bring myself to "guess" at the torque. I'll definitely reply to this thread when I've found the answer.
