    Default 24 volt battery charging

I have 2 batteries dedicated to my 24 volt trolling motor. I always take the jumper off between the 2 batteries when charging. I charge them one at a time. A buddy told me you can just hook up the charger and do them both at the same time by leaving the jumper on. If that is the case, do you put the hot cable from the charger on the positive of one battery and the negative from the charger to the negative of the other battery- or just hook up the charger to one battery and it will charge the other one at the same time?

Either way your talking about will work fine just take twice as long to charge. I have a 10 amp , 3 bank. Onboard charger....MinnKota 330D. One bank connected to outboard cranking battery and the other two banks connected individually to the trolling motor batterys....yes the jumper stays in place. When i come in from fishing I plug it in......it stays plugged in 24/7 untill i go again.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

You can leave the jumper on but you still have to do them one at a time. Your best bet is get a 2 bank on board charger. Then you can charge both at the same time without disconnecting anything. You can go fishing and when you get home plug an extension cord in the charger and then forget it until time to go fishing again. If you have a 3rd battery for starting go with a 3 bank charger. Especially if you have an older motor as their charging system is pretty small. It makes life much more simpler.

I use a NOCO genius mini 3 bank. It is well worth the investment. Very convenient, reliable, and your batteries will last longer being well maintained.

I have 2 batteries a trolling motor, a anchor system, 2 hds units with lss 1 box and a 2 bank min Kota charger. That's all in front of my boat. How should I hook all this up the right way? In back I have motor and battery but I charge it separate. I'm confused on how I should hook up everything to 2 batteries and to the 2 bank charger. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated the trolling motor is a 12 volt minn Kota.

As for the charger put 1 lead on each battery. Hook the TM to one battery and everything else to the other battery.

Your buddy is thinking of a parallel circuit connection between two batteries. You have a series circuit. Your options are to either continue charging one at a time or get a multi bank charger. There's no need to unhook the jumper. Do not split the leads from your charger to the two batteries on a series circuit. That would create a dead short in the charger or overload it, depending on which terminals were selected.
    I'd rather be fishing.

That's how I had it first off all but trolling battery don't last all day. Was wanting to hook it up so it will have more amps. Can't remember what it's called but you hook both 12 volt batteries together I guess in series and it still has 12 volts to the trolling motor. I should have explained what I wanted better in my other post sorry

You need to start your own thread for this. The OP has a totally different situation and most of the answers now are getting confused about the question with half answering you and half answering him.

OK I can do that but it's not that hard to tell what answer goes to what question.
