    Default 1998 25hp 3 cylinder Johnson

Hey guys just wanted to see if I could get some opinions on a 1998 25hp 3 cylinder Johnson. I have had this motor for about 3 years, and knock on wood no problems what so ever. Just changed out the lower unit last night (02-07-15) and didn't notice any metal shavings on the magnet, and there was no signs of water leaking in.

Here is my problem, I have searched the internet and asked around, with some people saying it was the best 25hp Johnson ever put out, and others saying it a piece of junk.. So, with the knowledge of the people on this site what do you guys think? Like I said not one problem so far, with the exception of it being hard to get started first thing at the ramp, and even after running several miles, and fishing maybe 45 minutes you still have to choke it to get it to fire back up, that's it..

The oil tank has been removed, and I am mixing 50:1, good plugs and the thermostat is good. Changed all fuel lines over last year to the new ones that are supposed to be ethanol resistant, new primer bulb & fuel filter, and the fuel pump is in good shape..

Opinions are like...well you know, sometimes people tend to regurgitate what they had read or heard with out having any first hand knowledge.......In any event sounds like you got a good motor........

Many times a hard cold start condition is the result of a lean slow speed jet.......If the carb has idle air speed mixture screws ( they may have a tamper proof plug over them ) you can adjust it a little to make easier starting. If not then a small bump up in the slow speed jet............

Ever since the EPA got really involved with manufacturers just about everything from weed wackers to outboards are set up lean from the factory.
