Muddy water

My success in muddy conditions is to always look for eddys in the water and fish the seam between the moving water and what is still. Fish seem to wait for things to wash out of those currents as it presents an opportunity for an easy meal. Think about the fish and how they operate: (energy consumed - energy spent = amount of growth) I would believe that this is important because it’s a big fish eat little fish world out there!

I’m not a seasoned fisherman and I may be completely wrong, but thinking about fish like that has helped me locate and understand what to look for on the water in muddy conditions.

Thanks I agree. I had a couple things against my favor that day with water conditions not only muddy but the current was very strong along with the depth being 2 feet above full pool. Looking back I wish I had repacked my yak crossed the state line and put into another area I know that’s a little more set off the main river with a good amount of shootable docks. I was to the point where if it was past a little dingy I wouldn’t go. I got some pointers from slab prowler and figured out it was possible to catch them in muddy water. I don’t kill them but have caught a few. But then again I don’t come close to killing them in perfect conditions.

Sounds crazy but I start with BG pearl white. If no luck I go to a black/chartreuse crazy/curly tail slider. Can’t think of the name but I’ve done ok with a BG that’s chartreuse with red flake. Tried something new today in pretty muddy and high water. A Charlie Brewer slider swirly bee. Probably gonna be where I start from now on. Black/chartreuse.

I experiment with colors on muddy water and couple of my home lakes are always stained. I like the crappie magnet orange/chartreuse, blk/char crappie thunder, white/char, pearl/char. BG moglo colors are good too.

guess point is keep going and try different things. Great ideas here on WHERE to try and fish around any structure you find. if up OVER your docks fish alongside is always good suggestion as it's still cover but then you need to find depth so vertical jigging is good.

Thanks! Vertical jigging is a method I need to put to practice. Just need to train my mind into experimenting for testing different methods.

Purple/chartreuse or Orange/chartreuse works fine in tubes or handties . Presentation is way more important than colors . Took a buddy on Tuesday and put it in their face with livescope . Held it on them in the dingy water . We caught 157 counting the short fish . Kept our limits and released plenty of nice ones .
