    Default Pond fishing rod recommendation

Just looking for a rod recommendation, sub $75, to be paired with a president 20.

I’ll only be doing neighborhood pond fishing, walking the banks going after sunfish 98% of the time and maybe go after small bass 2% of the time.

So far I’m very attracted to the shorter rods in the 5’ to 5.5’ range I’ve felt in hand. They feel very good, seem portable and I do need to consider low hanging cypress trees that line the shores. However they don’t seem to be popular based on the minimal number of examples I saw available which leads me to believe that is for a reason.

I tried using the forum search function, trying various terms but couldn’t nail down any that kept standing out.

So any recs for this application? Should I go longer?

    Thank you!

6 foot Dobyns panfish special is on the upper end of the price , but it is just terribly sweet to put in ones hand , just saying , it is a one pc. though .....not sure how or what your preferred methods are but that there rod should cover it in style and function .

ESP™ High-Performance Ultra Light Rods – Norsemen Outdoors

Check out the 5'6" UL rod and/or the 6' Power Lite rod.

If you decide to purchase an ESP rod .... price check Grizzly Jig vs Norsemen (price + s/h) as Grizzly Jig advertises the ESP rods at $10 less than Norsemen Outdoors.

I have a 6'6" ESP Power Lite rod that's currently paired with a Mitchell 308x (8.4oz) and it's a bit handle end heavy. Your President 20 should weigh around 6.2oz and should be better on the shorter rods.

Note: the only difference between a 6' & 6'6" Power Lite rod is the 6" handle extension on the 6'6" rod. Also, ESP rods have Tenn Style handles (w/retainer rings) so you can move the position of the reel around on the handle to adjust the balance. What you don't want is a outfit that's tip end heavy, as it will wear on your wrist/forearm with extended use. Better to have it a bit handle end heavy, if you can't get a perfect balance.

I don't have a specific reccomendation, just a general observation, I would get a rod at least 7 ft long, that way it is easier to swing onto the bank, or get over shore line obstacles
