    Default Crappie spooked

    Q. Does a trolling motor above a school of crappie spook them? Does depth eliminate spooking?

    Q. Does a slow big motor above a school of crappie spook them? Does depth eliminate spooking?

    Q. If you catch a crappie in a school does that spook the school.

    Thanks

The answer to all three questions is ... sometimes it does, sometimes it don't.

Depth can play a part in not spooking fish, but that depends on other factors as well, such as water clarity & surface activity (like boat traffic, waves caused by wind, etc.).
The degree of spooking is also dependent on those same factors. You might "alert" the school of your presence, but not "spook" them away from the cover or area. Or you might cause them to seek deeper depths in the water column or the cover they're around. Then again, sometimes they just don't really react to your presence or the noise, one way or the other.

A lot of the times seeing another fish feeding will make the others feed as well.
If the fish are really pressured than they may turn off and not bite. Happens a lot of times when shooting docks. Catch one or two then nothing. A size or color change will at times get them back to bitting again

No set answer , depends on depth , temp, and water color . Seen them keep biting on a shallow lake in 6' after hitting cover and spook on another in 20 when livewell kicked on .

This, just depends on their mood that day.
My lake is clear, I even try to take the boat shadow in mind when moving on fish.
Lots of times we cast 35’ to them to keep from spooking them
