The 308x weighs about 8.6oz and makes the outfit a bit on the handle heavy side, but that probably could be negated a bit by moving the reel forward a bit. It doesn't bother me that it's handle end heavy, so I use it "as is".

The "rings" work, but they are subject to slipping off the reel foot (especially reels with a thick reel foot). This can be taken care of by electrical tape, which I have used with previous reels I've had on the rod ... like when I had a Okuma STX20 on it.

The end guides and tip are "micro guides" ... so it's not user friendly to "bobber stops" or even line connecting knots. (FYI)

*disclaimer : this rod was given to me for "field testing" by the designer (now VP of Marketing at Norsemen Outdoors). I did not purchase the rod, and have no obligations to him or the marketing company (then or now). I recommend this rod only from my experiences with using it.
CP, I wonder how it would be with some slightly larger ring diameters so a bobber stop would pass easier??? Sounds like a nice rod otherwise.

Don't really know, JD .... I've used the rubber "football" type, the "dogbone" type, and the "ladder" type bobber stops, and even on rods with big guides & tip eyes there were problems. They either hung up on the cast, shortening the distance, or when reeling a fish in they'd catch at the tip and get pushed down the line (rubber football) or just hung in the tip until slack was let in the line and the stops reeled thru in that split second (dogbone/ladder). I don't remember losing a fish on any of those accounts, but the cumbersome nature of using them made me use them sparingly. In fact, I think I've only used a slip float one time in the last couple of decades, and that was with a rod with regular size guides. I'm pretty sure the whole tip of my ESP rod would easily pass thru the tip of any of my regular rods.
Thanks Jamesdean thanked you for this post

I have a couple with those Micro guides. I don't care fer dem. So as slick as momma's happy with this house re-do, I'm settin' out to remedy that with something along the concept of concept guide set up with runnin' guides large enough to pass the bobber stop knot, which I use...Thanks for the follow-up CP

I bought a 10 foot acc with cork handle that i'm really liking. I a 13 ft. acc super grip rear seat, a jenko Kevin Rogers 13 footer, a 9 ft. okuma connisuer but the 10 ft acc is really light & sensitive with good back bone. I'm using a shimano fx on it & it's nice in my opinion.

My favorite rod for crappie fishing?
I guess that would depend upon how i chose to fish for them that day.
I might just decide to dip the lily pads with a 10 foot telescopic.

I have two I've been I really like and find myself using a lot more than others. Both, are cheaper rods and reels. The first is a 7 ft. All Star panfish which was a clearance deal at Academy. The second is a BPS panfish elite 7'2" lite power, that i have fallen in love with. I did use a buddy's Jenko hypersense 7' that was nice.
