    Default 2lb for 1/32oz jigs?

I have it in my head that I want to cast 1/32oz jigs and small plastics. I bought a 6' UL St Croix panfish rod and equipped it with a President 25 and 4lb hi viz. I can cast it 20 -25 feet. Would going to 2lb increase the distance. The 4lb is so fine I have some difficulty tying knots. Am I going about this correctly, casting 1/32?

You should get better distance than 20-25ft with a 1/32 jig. 2lb test will allow you to cast farther for sure. I throw 1/64 jigs with 2lb test.

Agreed. 2# will cast farther, but he should be able to get at least 40' with that set up.

You might want to try a 2# braid, it will have much more strength than 2# mono.

... but 2# braid will be even thinner. If he's having trouble tying knots with 4# mono, 2# braid will be like a spider web.

Well, I use Berkley fireline crystal ice 2# It's white, and have no problems seeing it, and tying knots with it.

OK my bad. Went out in the yard/snow with a tape measure. I am actually getting approximately 40 feet a cast. Anything to be gained by going to 2 lb?

You will get more distance from a thinner line. Most 4# line sold in the US is .20mm in diameter which actually breaks at around 6#.

I suggest going to a "true" 4# line around .17mm in diameter. I would try Maxima Chameleon, Leland's SOS, or Stren Crappie mono.

I cast 1/32 road runners on K-9line , 4 lb. test. It is .165 diameter . Can get hi-vis or clear . good stuff . Should cast 45-55 ft. on a spinning reel with a 6.2 rod .

Line diameter/# test varies between companies. One braid I use has a larger diameter for 6# test than another that is thinner for the same line test. The thinner line is also difficult for me to make knots and I've gone up to the next test. Both lines are good and cast 1/32 oz jigs over 35' depending on the size and weight of the soft plastic lure I'm casting.

I used spincast and spinning reels with braid.
