    Default Kayak Spider Rigging Questions

Hi guys, been tinkering on setting up my kayak for spider rigging. My question (for today lol) is focused on how much weight is needed to keep jigs vertical in water that is at most 6 foot deep? I'm focusing on shallow water right now because I don't have a depth finder and might be a while before I can get one. Anyhow, would an 1/8 ounce jig on bottom be enough, or would I need to go the 3/8 or 1/2 oz egg sinker route I've seen with a lot of spider rigs?

If it matters, I also don't have any intentions of using minnows, will stick to jigs with nibbles or similar attractant.

In water that shallow and the speed your going to be going I’d start with a 3/8. I like the lightest weight I can get by with and still keep my lines almost straight down instead of swimming back to much. If your able to keep them pretty much vertical with just the jig that’s ideal. Might try mixing it up with a 1/4 added to one then 3/8 then 1/2

I guess my question would be rod storage for all the rods?
I mean i use a 14’ jon boat, and rod storage is a problem even for that.
My solution is taking less rods, and for spider rigging using the telescopic ones which store much easier.

Yeah that’s a good point to consider

Spider rigging with 4 10' rods is not bad. DitchBasser on the Alabama forum usually uses 1/8 and lighter jigs and he is the best I know at spider rigging out of a kayak. He catches them all summer long out of less than 2' of water spider rigging. Look up some of DB's post on the AL forum, he gives some pretty good details.
