    Default How do you decide?

Hey everybody. I’ve been following for a while, but this is my first time to post. I really want to make an effort to get better at crappie fishing this year, so I’m studying as much as I can and going when able.
That being said, I’m curious and want to get some opinions. How do you decide how to fish? When do you cast, when do you vertical jig, when do you troll? How do you decide which presentation, which color? Basically, from day to day, how do you decide what you’re going to do?

Trial on error. Formulate a plan thoughout the week based on what you want to try, then try it when you get to the lake. If it doesn’t work, try something else. Let the fish tell you what they want. Hope this helps. Welcome aboard

I appreciate it. That’s kind of what I’ve been trying to do, just not very successfully. I pretty much stay frustrated all spring and summer, then I have all of hunting season to forget how I swore off crappie fishing the year before

Start with this article by Don Wirth, Crappie By Degrees. If the cut and paste link doesn’t work, do a search for the article, very informative and can be related to most US lakes.

I cast jigs 100% of the time.

Could I catch more fish if I trolled? Maybe, but I don't care. For me, fishing is all about enjoyment, and I enjoy casting jigs. I catch plenty of fish, too.

I cast all the time too. I use jigs, Road Runners, and Beetle Spins 98% of the time. I catch all kinds of fish and love it..

If I don't catch a fish in 30 mins. Try something else. Depth, color, lure size or change location
