    Default Best Beginner Depth Finder

Im looking to finally get myself a depth finder/gps in the very near future. While I love Garmin's interface, I don't feel like they are the best bang for the buck. Im kinda on the fence about Humminbird or Lowrance. I also don't know what they have in the 200 to 250 dollar price range. So I am just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction.

I wouldn't go below a 5" screen and I'm not sure you can get a HB or Lowrance for that. Possibly $300 on sale. Call Brian at BBG Marine, a CDC sponsor. He's a great guy and will make you the best price.
However, you might want to look on here for a used unit. Most of us are equipment junkies and upgrade a unit that is just like new just to get a bigger unit.

The HB Helix5" combo GPS is a solid 1st unit.

I would also call some of the dealerships and ask if they have any pull offs. I know this is not what you want, but I found at my dealership the other day that they had pull offs (meaning a brand new boat but the graphs were not what the customer ordered) for a very good price. Example on the Helix 12 humminbird they were about 600 off normal pricing. You probably would not find anything really small but at the same time you never know unless you ask. They may also have older ones from customer upgrades.

The best for a beginner is the biggest in your price range. Humminbird, lowrance, or garmin, they all work. They all have something that the brand loyalist likes.
Bottom line, get something and start learning to use it. Best Beginner Depth Finder
