Default The Moon and Crappie Fishing

Looking at the big beautiful moon and wondering what effect it has on the crappie bite. Haven't night fished much, and results were either fantastic or awful. Usually awful.

Any pointers on moon phase or time that is best for catching crappie?

    Thanks!

I've been fishing for almost 60 years...I've caught fish on "good" moons, "bad" moons, and everything in between...and I've also NOT caught fish as well on same conditions. My advice...go when you can and as often as you can. You'll never catch fish without a bait in the water! Good on ya!!!

In my experience, moon phase, as well as cold fronts, have little effect on crappie. They bite when they want to bite, whether the moon is full or new. Fish "have to" eat. It's an inbred survival trait. And they take advantage of any condition, or forage base, that is presented to them to accomplish that goal. There is no "VooDoo" in fishing. Just go when you can and have fun!

I believe you will find more people night fishing on a full moon than a dark night. I always like a dark night with a white gas coleman lantern hung over the water.
