    Default Trolling

If trolling with a 1/16 ounce jig head how much line do you need to let out to roughly be fishing 6 to 8 ft. Thanks

That chart explains exactly why I don't Longline Troll ... with that much line out to get to the depths I need (8-15ft deep) and 4 rods out, I'd have to make some really long and wide turns to keep from having the lines come together. Not to mention having to reel a fish in from that far behind the boat, giving them a much greater chance of coming off the hook.

You could always side pull to keep the spread open more. But trying to reach those kind of depths by just long lining, in normal fashion, might not be the best tactic. Although the chart does reflect what would be needed to achieve those depths under those conditions. I think more depth control would be needed however (i.e.: drop weights, etc..).

That chart isnt even close to what I have experienced. I pull at 0.8 and about 25' of line with a 1/16oz jig and 2" grub will be down about 8'. Ill hit bottom in 12' with two 1/16 tubes back 25'-30'.

Maybe the chart is for big plastics and minnows? (More drag = more lift of the bait).
