Default Planer Boards - Basic Setups?

I'm going to try out the crappie reaper mini planer boards, ordered a few after watching their video catching crappie on Tellico. I have never used a planer board before.

Can someone just give me a basic setup and an overview of when planer boards are the favored method over other methods?

What water temperatures are prime for planer boards?

What line size to use with planer boards?

What speeds with the planer boards?

When do you use jigs with planer boards? Which ones to use with planer boards? What weights and how much line out behind the boards?

When do you use minnows with planer boards?

When do you use crankbaits with planer boards? Which ones to use with planer boards? How much line out behind the boards?

I don’t rely on water temp as much as time of year. On Tellico Watts Bar etc I start fishing first of Feb through March. I use 20 braid with a barrel swivel and 3-4 ft of 6 lb mono leader I try to stay in the .8 to 1 mph it’s hard to beat Charlie Brewer sliders esp blue chart tail but I use double rigs with every color combo till they tell me what they want. I try to stay in 3-8 ft of water in backs of big bays creeks etc. I use 1/16 jigs and usually start out between 4-8 ft of line behind the board I never use crankbaits
