    Default Favorite Type of Line

Setting up a couple of new poles. Will be used mostly for Jigging but will also see some use as maybe some slow trolling. Just wondering what most of you use for line, Mono, Fluorocarbon, Braided? Low vis, High vis? Keep in mind we don't have 30 poles for every type of fishing, Day of week or rain or shine. We leave the dock with 2-3 poles each depending on how many people are in my 16.5 boat. Just an opinion pole guys, thanks.

The archives are filled with opinions on line. The short answer is this: it's 100% personal preference.

If you do a search, you'll find dozens of threads like these:

Not sure who said it, but "perception is all there is" is a fairly famous quote. Your preferences and choices, with line, lures, rods & reels, will change over time. Sometimes you will lean more to light equipment.....sometimes heavier braids and something more "stout". And who knows what all else you'll probably come up with. The point is, as long as you're fishing and having fun, that's what it's all about. Some good suggestions above, so I won't give you mine. Try something and most of all, keep a tight line!

Yep, like Crestliner said. It all works. Just make a choice and give it a go. If you don't like it next time it needs changing go with your second choice. I have used mono, fluro, braid, copolymer, and all worked. It really is a just a preference.

I just recently switched to nanofil and I’m loving it… it casts far with my light jigs and comes off the reel just fine.

What you are asking is for what I call an "all around rod". Jig fishing, floats, maybe long line troll if needed. 4lb hi-viz mono or 6lb braid for me. I prefer the mono unless I am casting jigs to open water, then I like the braid for the added sensitivity. The braid is very weak around structure though, you bump a mussel covered dock pole or stump and it will chew that line up to pieces, so I like to use mono for the most part.

I have yellow mono (crappie maxx mostly now) on all of my mono rods, crappie usually don't care and its easier to see light bites when the line twitches or starts to run sideways. Also easier to see multiple lines when trolling. If I am fishing super clear water, I just tie on a short clear leader.
