Yes, it is "possible" .... just may be a bit limiting (esp. depth). I would think streamers would be your best bet.

Yes, but most people prefer to fly fish for bluegill and bass because they are more inclined to hit topwater flies. As CP said, small streamers would be best.

There are times when a fly rod will outfish conventional gear. Like crappie on the bed or when they are shallow. Throw 1/100 oz jigs that make no noise when they splash down and slowly flutter to the bottom. Silent and deadly. You can cover an amazing amount of water with a fly rod because you spend no time reeling. I pour 1/100 oz jigs on a size 6 little nasty hook and tie either maraboo tail or squirmy wormy. Killer. I do not like to fish more the 4 or 5 feet deep with them.

I got tired of constantly having to whip a fly rod back and forth just to make a cast. You can catch just as many fish with spinning, but without all the hassle .

Whipping the rod back and forth (a/k/a "false casting") should always be kept to a minimum.

Ideally, you make one back cast and one forward cast -- just like with spinning tackle.

Yeah, but another problem I alway had, was finding a clear area to use that fly rod.Every good looking spot I wanted to fish always had some kind of trees around it.

We ain't trout fishing! Style points don't fill coolers. Lure time in the water at the correct depth and speed do. Sometimes, the fly rod is the correct tool to accomplish that goal.

A roll cast helps in places like that. No back cast is needed.

If you’re in New Orleans, you’ve got some killer fly fishing opportunities in fresh and saltwater.
