I absolutely love the OFF wipes. I can keep the re-closeable packet in my tacklebag and not have to worry about spills or accidental sprays. Plus, with the wipes, you can really get covered up good around your ears and neck and face.

If it's really bad, I would recommend getting the Repel Permethrin and spraying your clothes down with it the night before. It works wonders, and a good spray down lasts for 2 weeks.

A combo of the OFF wipes and the Repel Permethrin are critical for my summer night fishing, as well as my spring turkey hunting. The one-two punch of those products is tough to beat. I get both products from Walmart in the camping section, the Repel is not always in stock, so I usually buy a couple of cans at a time when they have it.

If you can't find the Repel Permethrin at Walmart, you can always check Academy (if you have one around), they usually have the Repel as well as another brand called "Sawyer" permethrin that should work the same. The permethrin is also really good at keeping the ticks off of you.

Just an FYI - the Deet content only means how long the application will last, much like sunscreen spf ratings. The Repel 100 with 98% Deet will last 10 hours, whereas the wipes I mentioned with 30% Deet will last 5 or 6 hours hours (though the package says 10 hrs). Plus, in using the higher concentrations of Deet, if it gets on your fingers it will take the finish off of various things like your fishing reels. Concentrations of 50% or higher provide no added protection.

The recommended concentration of Deet is a minimum of 15% to be effective, and a maximum of 30%

Ok,thanks I have to use Deet 100 round here, because we have gnats (no see ums) and it's the only thing that works for them.

Best spray that I have ever found is home made. Lavender and water mixed in a spray bottle. I know you don't want to smell like a girl. But it works

After spending many decades in the woods hunting & fishing, I've come to rely on the Military's recommendation of pre-treating clothing with Permethrin spray. This is not a repellant. This is an insecticide which kills ticks on contact. It works. Good deals on this spray on Amazon.com. Best part is that pre-treated garments (hats, socks, shoes & gloves too!) maintain their effectiveness over several machine washings. A little goes a long way!

As far as repellants go, I would not recommend the wipes for only one reason - residue on your hands being transferred to your baits. An extremely reliable mosquito repellant is one that containls 100% DEET. It is the ONLY one tested and proven to accomplish this task under any conditions. For the past decade or so I've been using Sawyer's Maxi-DEET in pump spray (also available from Amazon). I dislike the aerosol type sprays due to the over spray issue. And I will not use lotions as, again, deet contact with the hands is repellant to fish; and besides that, deet coated hand contact with equipment can be damage finishes as well.

The combination of Permetrin and Deet has resulted in zero bites from ticks and/or mosquitoes for me for more years than I care to count. I never leave home without it.
