    Default Double jig

What is the best way to tie a double jig on. A couple weeks ago I tied 2 poles with double jig and broke both on fish. I use 6lb high vis line. I tied the top jig about 18-20 inches above the bottom.

What do you think caused the failure ?? Did it break at the knot, or was the fish that big ?? Did it break at the top jig both times, and if so, what knot were you using for the top jig ??

I don't use double jigs, myself ... so I'm just asking if you know the reason why the line broke (because I know it will get asked, eventually).

For my double tandem saltwater jigs I tie the first jig on, then go up the line about a foot and tie a small loop, next come down about two feet and tie the second jig.

This is the link that I followed to tie it on. Both of them broke at the top jig. The first time it broke I caught 2 crappie at the same time. The second time was a catfish, not a big cat. I was spider rigging so I didn't have the extra pull from trolling.

A common mistake is not wetting or moistening the line/ knot before you pull the line tight. It makes a huge difference in knot strength.

Either the line is bad or the knot was bad. You can tow a barge with 6# line.

I had brand new line on. I tied a single jig after the double broke and never had another problem. Must have been the knot. I'll try wetting it tomorrow.

I would use a large Surgeon's loop knot for the top dropper lure, and leave about 2 feet of tag end for the second lure. The Surgeon's loop is a reliable knot. To get your lure on it just squeeze the loop together and thread it through the eye of the lure then pull the lure through the loop just like you would do with a palomar knot.

I think I will try the surgeon's loop tomorrow.
