You "could" use them, if they were medium action and you put them off to the sides & away from the trolling motor. In this picture (sorry, it's the only one I have) I have a 14' rod & a 10' rod off the left side holder ... and a 14' & a 6'6" rod off the right side holder. The 6'6" rod is a med action Compre rod that I won in a raffle at the "grand re-opening" of a local tackle store. I rarely used it, back when I was Bass fishing, but works fine for this purpose. But, the point is the location of that 6'6" rod ... on the far end of the rod holder, as far from the trolling motor as possible. This keeps the lines from getting involved with the trolling motor prop, in the event of having to make a quick or sharp turn.

I have used mine and caught fish. I sometimes use a 4 ft drive on either side with 1 oz weight and crank or jig attached. You could even use a couple slow trolling behind trolling motor. Wouldn't try to use them forward of trolling motor.

I crank and spider rig with a 7 footer on the left side along with a 9,11,and a 14' from the front from 9-12 o'clock. Wife fishes from 3 o'clock to 6 in the back. Those 7 footers come in handy.

I converted two older 7' bass rods to crankin rods. They are my inside poles when I'm pulling crank baits off the back of the boat. They work great; I put Shakespere ATS line counter reels on them and started catching fish on them the first trip I put them to use.

When I push cranks I use all of my old bass rods with a three oz weight. I push 6 out the front.
