    Default Truck bed covers

Any one have experience with the fibreglas/plastic bed covers? I plan the buy a new truck in the next few months and want to be able the close the bed off to most of the weather. I know the covers aren't secure, just hoping to keep things dry.
Which manufactuor would you go with? Why? Type?
I'm thinking the one piece, but don't know what I don't know. Your thoughts would be welcome. Thanks in advance, scooperDude

I had a 2006 F150 Supercrew with the short bed and put an Extang Trifold on it. It served the purpose and I liked it.
I'd say the retractable covers are the way to go. The only thing that scared me about the single lid type covers was hauling something taller than the truck bed.

I went with the extang trifold too on an 04 f150. The I bought the truck in 2006 so I've had it for 12 years. It's been great!!! What I really like is the truck contents stay dry and if need be I can remove the top in just a few minutes and reinstalling is easy too.
I'll also be buying a new truck this year and my wife wants me to put a cap on the truck but I'm going to over rule her and I'm going with the trifold again. I don't like truck caps because they restrict visibility too much.

Extang for me as well however my buddy installed the newer aluminum roll up. Unlike the old roll ups of years ago that required snaps that always broke and canvas that shrank in size, these new ones are pretty awesome. They have ribs in them that allow them to fold or louver. It rolls all the way to the window allowing access and use to the whole bed.

As for the one piece fiberglass tops, they were okay when they first came out and served a purpose, unfortunately, if you need to haul anything in the bed of your truck that exceeds the bed rail height, you are pretty limited unless you take it off and store it. The trifold allows you to fold it in position, lock it down, and haul stuff over the rails. With the fiberglass tops, unless you put the tailgate down, you cannot haul a sheet of OSB. With the trifold or the new roll ups, you can keep the tail gate up and rest the plywood on the gate keeping it secure. A lot of planning has to go in to place if you have a fiberglass top. You can't just go to the store or to a yard sale, make a purchase on a new freezer or belt sander or band saw that you saw a great deal on and haul it home.

I just helped a friend install a bakflip g2 on a Dodge ram. Easy to install, looked good.
With a locking tailgate, it's secure, opens from the inside. Can still haul tall item's, without removing the cover, although you loose the ability to use rearview mirror with it up.
There's some of the hard folding ones that also open from the front. So you don't have to open all the panels, or crawl in, to get something in the front of the bed .
Co-workers have soft roll-up covers, they like them .
I'm leaning towards a cap/shell. Of course, the most expensive!!

A trifold came with my Ram and after going to the field twice, you could have planted a crop in the bed, sue to the dust. Took it off. It would be OK if you don't travel on dirt roads.

As for the hard covers, my son has the folding type which works ok but I wasent totally satisfied with the security aspect. I had the dealer install an aluminum roll up on my 2016 Chevy and at least for me its the best ive seen.
I do lose about 1 ft of truck bed when its rolled all the way forward. but otherwise it is very tight and secure and of coarse can be locked.
