Default Fishing a creek vs. Fishing in Truman Lake

When I am fishing what I assume to be a feeder creek into Truman, how do I really know if I am legally fishing the "creek" or "the lake". I ask because of the limit difference concerning crappie. Thank you in advance.

It is considered part of the lake until you reach elevation 706 feet above sea level. Above that it's stream fishing. And remember if you motor from below 706 to above it, you can't bring fish back below 706 that aren't legal in 706.

That being the case, how does the average person know the altitude of the surface of the creek they are fishing? thank you

I would call the local Conservation Agent. They know where the cutoffs are. A topo map or gps that shows elevation can be helpful too.

best to not have the agent have to make a decision on your status. when in doubt assume the Lake limit. have seen someone do otherwise and cost him bigtime. JMHO
