Scrat,

The cubes are working out well so far, but still relatively "new" to Kansas waters. The longevity of the structures is an important factor in determining the "value" of these artificial fish attractors. Yes, they are expensive but if they persist many years longer than a traditional brushpile then they may pay for themselves by creating savings in time, labor, and expense of continually "freshening up" brush piles composed of natural materials/trees. When working with with multiple thousand acre Kansas reservoirs, it is advantageous to place structures that have a lifespan of 10+ years since it's difficult to make an impact on total amount of placed habitat if that habitat degrades in 1 to 3 years.

KDWPT produced 300 of the cubes in 2015 and 900 in 2016. Fish bios across the state are experimenting with placement strategies in attempt to find the "best" scenario for Kansas fishes.

For as many cube location requests I have had, I've received few reports back from anglers on their success fishing the cubes. Shane, which has also replied to this thread, has reported productive fishing in the cubes with some quality fish included.

Are the cubes suited for and cost efficient in every situation? No, they aren't. The cubes are a very good option in waters where a quality, long lasting, effective structure is desired.

Hope this helps!!
