    Default My Fishing Report

Went to Maumelle early this morning and caught my limit (25) in White Bass, approx. 2-3lbs each - them females are full of eggs! - chart was working, switched to just white and cha-ching!

Then went to Peirce Creek, Conway. Caught 8 12"-14" Black Crappie on Jigs. Started sleeting and temp dropped to 37 and windy as heck so I left, but was a good day!

    Be out there again tomorrow.

Shimmy, I read an article in the paper recently that said the white bass were way down on the lake due to it being so infertile. Just wondering if you have seen the decline if you fish out there much. I know in years past the whites dont break in the evenings like they used to. The schools are still there just not as big or consistent.

Do you ever crappie fish on Maumelle?

    Gooch,

As a matter of fact, I have seen a slight decline. I've been fishing Maumelle since 93. Back then, the whites were holding in the creeks and narrow channels (they still do) and you can literally cast a net out there and catch 30-40 at a time. Throw a mepps lure out there, run it across the creek and snag 'em. But, I've been going to the same spot every year and catch my limit although their not packed in as in previous years.

Crappie fish on Maumelle? I would love to, just not familiar with Maumelle to know where to go. Again, I go to the same spot for whites every year on Maumelle until the run is over.

As a kid (way back when) I fished off the boat docks at Jolly Rogers with crickets and caught 10 large funny looking fish and gave them away. They were White Crappie!!!! Never seen one before so I thought they were undersireable - was used to catching bream.

If you or anyone wouldn't mind pointing me in the right direction or a general vicinity of crappie on Maumelle that would be great.

The only place I ever went crappie fishing is Conway and Pickthorne.

CrappieKnot: For the White Bass; white twister tail, throw to the other side of the bank (about 30'-40') and medium retrieve. I've notice that when it's cloudy, overcast, white or yellow works well. Sunny, chart works better.

For Crappie: Peirce Creek around the dock, it's only 2' deep or less. I use a black/blue with chart tail, 1-1/2' from cork. The wind gave it all the action I needed to catch them. Float the jig near stumps and cover.

Crappie are good west of the bridge in the flats to the right (north I think) if you're going up the creek.

It is plenty shallow in there and you can get boat marooned in there if you're not careful. But the best beds I ever found on Maumelle is up against the banks, on the right after you pass under the bridge, going up the creek.

I have also caught them way up the creek while chasing the whites.

The Chimney area is a decent producer for lm as well as crappie at certain times.

    Hope this helps. <><
